StudyLet Update — Major Voice & Screen Sharing Upgrade

Version 1.0

Written by Sophia

Hii!,
We’ve overhauled the Voice & Screen Sharing experience on StudyLet to give you smooth, high-definition streaming and crystal-clear audio—on par with platforms like Discord, Zoom, and Google Meet.

Here is what’s new in this release! 👇

🎙️ What’s New

1. Screen Share Quality Selection (Up to 8K!)

You now have total control over your stream quality before you go live. When you click Share Screen, a pre-stream selector lets you pick the best profile for your setup:

  • 720p — Best for low-bandwidth connections.

  • 1080p ⭐ (Recommended) — Crisp balance of performance and clarity.

  • 1440p — Ideal for fine text, code, and detailed diagrams.

  • 4K — Ultra-HD presentation quality.

  • 8K (Experimental) — Maximum clarity for high-end setups.

Each option displays estimated bandwidth, recommended internet speeds, and hardware impact so you always know what works best for your network.

2. True-to-Selection Streaming & Fallbacks

We updated our WebRTC engine to ensure your stream actually captures and broadcasts at your chosen resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. If your hardware or connection can’t handle a specific high-end setting, StudyLet will gracefully fall back to the nearest supported resolution without dropping your stream.

3. Fixed macOS Music & Audio Quality

No more muffled music! We resolved the macOS audio session issue where background audio (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube) degraded to "phone-call quality" when joining a voice channel.

  • High-fidelity stereo music playback remains rich and untouched while voice processing isolates only your microphone input.

4. Cleaner Connection Indicators & Live Stats

  • User-Friendly Status: Get instant feedback at a glance with live badges showing connection stability, current latency, packet loss, and live FPS (e.g., 🟢 Connection Excellent — 16ms | 0% Loss | 1080p @ 60 FPS).

  • Developer / Connection Stats Panel: Toggle the collapsible live diagnostics panel to monitor second-by-second data, including:

  • Network latency, jitter, packet loss, and actual send/receive bitrates.

  • P2P vs. TURN relay status.

  • Real video codec usage (AV1, VP9, H.264) and dropped frames.

  • Audio DSP features (echo cancellation, noise suppression, auto-gain).

  • CPU/GPU acceleration status.

5. Adaptive Quality (Auto Mode)

Don't want to adjust settings manually? Turn on Auto Mode. StudyLet will dynamically calibrate your resolution, frame rate, and bitrate on the fly based on your current network health and system load.

🔮 Coming Soon

We're already working on the next set of screen sharing features, including:

  • Multi-monitor & specific window/region sharing

  • In-app screen share recording

  • On-screen live annotations & drawing tools
